
City of Cortland Police Department Holds Walk-Out Ceremony For Officer Fitts – Served Department for 18 Years
On Friday afternoon, the City of Cortland Police Department held a walk-out ceremony for Officer Jeffrey Fitts, who served with the department for 18 years. In a release, the Cortland Police Department said he had served in numerous roles within the department including a Defensive Tactics Instructor, Physical Fitness Instructor, ASP Instructor, tactical team member, field training officer, bike patrol officer, and a highly motivated Patrol Officer.

“At this time, we would like to extend our congratulations to Police Officer Jeffrey Fitts on his retirement after 18 years of outstanding and dedicated service to the City of Cortland. Officer Fitts began his distinguished career with the Cortland Police Department on April 13th, 2007.” CPD said in the release.
During the walk-out ceremony, Officer Fitts’ fellow department members, City of Cortland officials, and family members lined the parking lot outside the department to hear his call from Cortland County 9-1-1 Dispatch officially putting his badge and unit numbers out of service.
“In addition to his service in law enforcement, Officer Fitts is honored for his service to our country as an Army Ranger. He served with pride in the 82nd Airborne Division for over four years, completing two combat tours in Iraq and earning the rank of Sergeant.”
Fitts also during his career served as the long-time Police Benevolent Association (PBA) President where he worked nonstop for fundraising campaigns and volunteer efforts to a long-lasting impact for the police department and Cortland Community.
