YWCA of Cortland Looking For Community Support For Aid to Victims of Violence Program

The month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and the YWCA of Cortland is looking for community support for their Aid to Victims of Violence program. The YWCA says those in the community can support their program by purchasing raffle basket tickets, or making monetary donations. All proceeds will go towards supporting survivors in the Cortland area, the YWCA says.

Members of the community are also encouraged to sign up as a volunteer in the Aid to Victims of Violence program.

“The fundraising efforts we undertake during Domestic Violence Awareness Month highlight the incredible work of our AVV staff and the crucial need for their services in our community.” said Jessica Smith, Director of YWCA Cortland’s Aid to Victims of Violence (AVV) program. “Although grants fund most of our program needs, they don’t pay for some of the things necessary for a domestic violence victim to live day-to-day. These necessities include new outfits and haircuts so survivors can start new jobs and lives, co-pays on medications someone had to leave home without escaping an abuser, or flea medication or cat litter for their beloved pets.”

The raffle basket fundraiser by the YWCA of Cortland will have 21 baskets to raffle off. Tickets may be purchased at the front desk at the YWCA. All baskets are themed ranging from decor, to wine. Tickets are only $5 for two or $10 for five tickets and will be on sale until 10am Monday, November 3rd.

Monetary donations may be made online at CortlandYWCA.org.
