After some speculation on Wednesday, a surveillance camera by University Police at SUNY Cortland confirmed that a black bear was in fact, on the college campus late morning.
SUNY Police say the bear only spent a few minutes on the campus before it proceeded northward away from the school. Where it ran off to is unknown.
Black bears are a rare sight to see in the City of Cortland. Residents who may see a bear are asked not to approach it and to call local police or the New York State DEC Cortland Office, their number is 607-753-3095.
