Baseball Hall Class Of 2018 Named

Chipper Jones, Jim Thome, Vladimir Guerrero and Trevor Hoffman have been elected to the baseball Hall of Fame. Jones and Thome made it 54 players elected in their first year of eligibility by members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. The four new members will be inducted on July 29 in Cooperstown.

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was listed with a concussion on the team’s initial injury report ahead of the Super Bowl. Gronkowski left the AFC title game just before the first half ended and his status for the big game isn’t known yet.

CRMC Presents SU over Boston College 81-63

The Tompkins Cortland Community College basketball teams played at Cayuga Community College Wednesday. The women won 84-65, with Jaida Washington (Elmira) having a triple-double of 19 points, 20 rebounds, 13 blocks. MacKenzie Kenyon (South Seneca) had 24 points, Taylor Day (Ithaca) had 19 points, and Tatiana Minnick (Ithaca) set a school single-game record with 13 assists.

The men lost 98-86, despite scoring an amazing 65 points in the second half.

The women’s game vs. Finger Lakes CC scheduled for Saturday has been rescheduled to February 20. The men will still play vs. Finger Lakes on Saturday, tipping at 2 p.m.
