“Women Swimmin’ for Hospicare” raises $400k

Local News

Hospicare officials say this year’s Women Swimmin’ event raised the third-highest amount of donations ever in its 17-year history at an estimated $400k.

COVID-19 forced the annual swim across Cayuga Lake to be cancelled, which is typically followed by a banquet at the Ithaca Yacht Club.

This year’s initiative was held entirely online.

Each year, Hospicare depends on proceeds from Women Swimmin’ to cover around 10% of its annual costs.

More below from Hospicare & Palliative Care Services:

When our staff and planning committee made the excruciating decision to cancel our lake swim and go virtual, we had no idea what our decision would mean for our fundraising total. What we did know is that the stakes are higher than ever before.

With so many people losing employment and insurance, and a growing need in our community for palliative care, hospice and grief support, every dollar matters to Hospicare, which relies on this event to cover 10% of its total costs each year.

Thanks to the generosity of our corporate sponsors who covered event costs, every penny raised this year – EVERY PENNY – will go to support patients and families throughout Cortland and Tompkins counties.

And it’s not too late to make a general donation or support someone you know at womenswimmin.org.

Thank YOU for making a SPLASH for Hospicare!  Although we were alone, we are together.
