Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Shooting Woman in Downtown Cortland
Updated: 7:55 pm – December 16th, 2022 | Cortland City Police this evening around 7:30 pm, announced that Tyshawn G. Pittman had been taken into custody.
The Police Department also thanked the community for their help in locating him.
Cortland City Police report that Pittman was located hiding inside an apartment in the vicinity of 109 Main Street.
Police also say the gun involved in the shooting was recovered and that its still an active investigation with two crime scenes being processed.
The Cortland Police Department thanked the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Cortland Fire Department, Cortland County District Attorney, Cortland County Emergency Communications Center, NYSW Railroad Police, and TLC Ambulance for their assistance in the investigation.

Original Story: Around 1:30 pm this afternoon there was a heavy police response after a reported shooting in an apartment at 107 Main Street.
Reports suggest that the victim knows the shooter and a domestic dispute is what led to the shooting. This is an ongoing investigation say Cortland City Police.
City of Cortland Police are asking the public for leads and information regarding Tyshawn Pittman. They are a person of interest in this investigation. Tyshawn may be contained at this time; however, it is not definitive. They are believed to not be a threat to the public.
The victim, a female, is in unknown condition, being transported to Upstate for medical attention. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Main Street is closed from Court Street to Port Watson Street and Tompkins Street is closed from Church Street to Prospect Terrace. Those who live the area have been advised to shelter in place.
