On October 20th of last year the City of Cortland Police department began an investigation of the death of an eight year old child.
The city police was assisted by the Cortland County Department of Social Services, Cortland County District Attorney’s Office, and the Cortland County Coroner’s Office.
Once finishing the investigation, the case was presented to the Cortland County Grand Jury on May 20th, and an indictment was handed up by the grand jury charging 32 year old Billiejo L. Adams with Criminally Negligent Homicide and Endangering the Welfare of a child.
The investigation found that Adams, who had custody of the child, failed to provide the child with medication that was prescribed, and failed to administer proper care for the child. The investigation also discovered the living conditions in the home were substandard and the conditions along with lack of care lead to the child’s death.
On May 26 (Thursday) Billiejo L. Adams was arrested on a Superior Court Warrant and arraigned in Cortland County Court today (May 27).
Bail was set at $3,000 cash or $6,000 bond. She is to reappear in court on July 21.
