May is Bike safety month and AAA is reminding drivers to stay alert and avoid all distractions while driving, to yield to cyclists when turning, scan your mirrors and check blind spots before entering or leaving a lane of traffic, and to slow down and give at least 3 feet of clearance when passing.
In 2020, 938 bicyclists were killed in traffic crashes in the United States, an increase of 92 deaths from 2019. Between 6pm and 9pm is the most common time frame when a cyclist is to get hit and die; most often in urban areas.
