Matt Brooks: [00:00:00] Good morning. I’m Matt Brooks on X 1 0 1 Oh Ways Classic in for another edition of Happening in Homer with me and this morning’s segment. Well, it’s Andrew Pierce, recreation Director for the Village of Homer. First off, Andrew, good morning and, thank you for joining me this morning.
Andrew Pierce: Thanks for having me, Matt.
Glad to be here.
Matt Brooks: Well, we’ve got a lot to talk about, but first, Homer Winter Fest coming up this weekend, starts up tomorrow. Just talk a little about it. What’s your favorite thing about, this annual festival?
Andrew Pierce: Always an exciting time of the year. My favorite part of Winterfest is the, the, the kickoff with the bonfire, the fireworks.
And of course we’ve got our ice rink that’ll be open. So, that’s always a great time.
Matt Brooks: Yeah. Make sure to get a good seat at the fire this year, ’cause it’s gonna be a chilly one tomorrow night.
Andrew Pierce: Looks like a, a subzero weekend.
Matt Brooks: Well, it’s gonna be. Fun regardless. But we have some more events coming up.
Before we went on air. We’re talking about the father daughter dance. That’s on February 7th. It’s already sold out.
Andrew Pierce: Yeah. Quick registration opened and within [00:01:00] two weeks it was filled up. We have 50 couples coming, to our event.
Matt Brooks: It’s great to hear. It’s always great news to hear something, sell out like that.
And you’re actually talking as well that there might be a change in venue, but that’s not confirmed yet.
Andrew Pierce: Yeah, we’ve got some, logistical concerns with the, the number of people and, we’re looking at possibly a different venue, but we’ll get that information out to all those that are registered in a timely manner
Matt Brooks: and we’ll make sure to relay it, when we get the information as well.
Now beyond Homer Winter Fest, that’s this weekend, the sold out father daughter dance in February. Is there anything else, coming up? As we’re getting through this winter and towards spring,
Andrew Pierce: so we’re looking through towards spring and that’s our Cathy stage softball program. So we’re gonna open up registration February 17th.
That’ll be for girls, eight and under, 10 and under and 12 and under,
Matt Brooks: and all that information regarding softball, getting your, child registered. Can all be found on the rec desk, correct?
Andrew Pierce: Yeah. Rec desk is our, number one, source to get the, information and registration information.
Matt Brooks: Well, we [00:02:00] are running a little bit outta time.
I just wanna make sure people know where to go. You have the rec desk online, but if people have questions or want more information. Where should people go?
Andrew Pierce: So check out our Facebook page, the Homer Recreation Facebook page. We’re always updating that with information. Or just gimme a call at (607) 749-0663.
Matt Brooks: Well, I gotta say thank you for, getting through this chilly weather and joining me on another edition of Happening at Homer. Always a pleasure, Matt. Thanks for having me here. This is X 1 0 1 oh, always classic. I’m Matt Brooks.
