Winter Weather Advisory Issued Through Weekend
The National Weather Service at Binghamton (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Chenango, Cortland, Otsego, and Southern Cayuga County beginning at 10pm Friday, January 3rd through Sunday, January 5th at 1am. The NWS says both snow and gusty winds are expected.
Lake effect snow is expected to fall in periods throughout the Central New York Region with accumulations ranging from 3 to 6 inches. Wind gusts may reach up to 35mph at times. The NWS says motorists should plan on slippery road conditions and areas where blowing snow is possible such at hilltops could cause significant reduced visibility.
Heavier snowfall is also expected in Onondaga County, which is in a Lake Effect Snow Warning until late Sunday afternoon. Areas in Onondaga County could see up to 2 feet of snowfall. The City of Syracuse may get up to 18 inches of snow by the end of the weekend.
