A joint investigation by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department and county Department of Social Services ended with two arrests.
Sheriff’s Sgt Jason Newcomb identifies the couple as Danielle Carroll, 55, and Kristian Carlton, 41. Both are from Willet.
They were arrested Monday on felony charges of Offering a False Instrument for Filing, along with misdemeanor charges of Welfare Fraud and Petit Larceny.
Sgt. Newcomb says it was reported that on January 17th, 2017, they submitted a fraudulent document to the Cortland County Department of Social Services concerning their household income.
As a result, they received benefits they were not entitled to in excess of $400.
Both were released with an appearance ticket to appear in the Cortland City Court on April 7, 2017.
