What to Expect at Tonight’s Cortland Common Council Meeting

The Cortland Common Council meets tonight (January 4) with some new members in addition to the new Mayor, Scott Steve.


In the meeting will recognize former City Officials for years of service. Appointed as City Clerk will be Andrew Jewett, and John Meldrim as Corporation Counsel. 8th Ward Alderperson Thomas Michaeles is expected to be named Acting Mayor. Robert Rhea will be reappointed as City Zoning Officer and the search continues for a new Finance Director.

Members of the Zoning Board of Appeals will be the various Boards and Commissions appointed.

Council is expected to approve $14,000 to demolish unneeded buildings considered unsafe at the Water Works and a plan to move City Police to a fixed shift schedule later this month. Part of this move includes the desk officer position being removed. Other discussion items include the future Future of the Apex Industrial Site, (43-45-47) on Cleveland Street. Council is also expected to schedule a Public Hearing to establish zoning for cannabis dispensaries.
