WXHC News broke the news yesterday (April 8) that Mark Webster has unexpectedly decided to retire as president and CEO of Guthrie Cortland Medical Center, effective August 31, 2019.
Sources originally told us Webster had planned to resign and sent a private letter to employees nearly 2 weeks ago informing them of his decision, but nothing was made public until we inquired with Webster’s team yesterday and a short release was then sent out.
We were able to personally speak with Webster on the phone yesterday evening.
He confirmed that he has decided to retire come August and told us this decision was made in hopes “to spend more time at home instead of at work,” especially as his wife endures a tough battle with her health.
Webster has been president of the now Guthrie Cortland Medical Center for five and a half years and oversaw the hospital’s merger with Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, PA in January.
He told us he’s confident the organization will choose the right individual to succeed him and oversee the $100 million investment Guthrie will make in the hospital over the next five years.
