State Senator Lea Webb and Senate Democrats have passed a package of legislation to protect ratepayers from price surging and other tactics from utility companies.
The legislation will include a variety of measures meant to hold utility companies accountable, such as more accurate meter readings, affordable payment plans, and limiting fixed charges. There are also measures to strengthen utility storm response and compliance and civil penalties for utilities that knowingly make false statements to the Public Service Commission.
In addition to these measures, Senator Webb has published a short survey on her Senate website to collect info on the impact of rising utility costs on residents of Broome, Cortland and Tompkins Counties. Survey will be open until June 15th.
