Around 8 o’clock Wednesday evening, officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to Walmart for a reported larceny. As the officers were conducting their investigation, they observed a man not involved in the larceny, who had an active warrant for his arrest.
Officers identified the male as 28 year old Benjamin C. Truitt of Marathon, who provided officers with false identification before he then fled on foot. Officers had a brief pursuit with Truitt briefly before they took him into custody.
As officers were searching Truitt, they found him to be in possession of a small amount of narcotics. He is facing charges of Resisting Arrest, False Personation, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd, and 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th.
Truitt was transported to the Sheriff’s Office where he was processed and later released on an appearance ticket. He is due back in Cortlandville Town Court next month.
