The Village of Homer Department of Public Works (DPW) has resumed working on the Village of Homer’s Walkable Homer project. Work has begun on the southside of James Street within the village near the intersection of Cortland Street.

DPW workers will work towards Main Street replacing any broken or depleted sidewalks. This year looks to be the last year allowed under the grant the village received for sidewalk replacement; additional workers have been hired to move the project quickly.

Once the southside of James Street is finished, the DPW will move towards working on the northside of James Street before then heading over to Cayuga Street. Work is expected to continue through October.

Homer DPW Superintendent, Phil Stockton, says with the work, minor traffic disruptions can be expected as crews remove sidewalk and bring in concrete.
