X101 News has learned not only Voyant Beauty of Cortland, but ALPLA, Inc. is closing operations in the City of Cortland.

Multiple attempts have been to reach representatives of Voyant Beauty by X101, but no response has been given so far. Voyant Beauty is currently a large operating facility on Cortland’s East side on 106 Central Ave.

X101 spoke with a corporate representative from ALPLA, Inc. who informed X101 that their location is expected to close sometime near the end of the year and confirmed the closure of the Voyant Beauty production facilities.

APLA, Inc. shares the building with Voyant Beauty on Central Ave.

Voyant Beauty currently has over 300 employees in the Cortland area and APLA, Inc. employs 35.

“It’s important that we continue supporting the Cortland team and our customer, Voyant, as we work to maintain production over the next couple of months,” said ALPLA’s Sr. Director of Manufacturing, James Parkhill.  “Our Cortland team has worked hard and continues to work hard, and we want to ensure that this part of the ALPLA family is taken care of throughout this process, whether helping them find jobs internally or assisting them in finding local opportunities in the Cortland area.”

Gary VanGorder, Executive Director of the Cortland County BDC released a statement to us on the closings.

Both announcements come as a surprise to us. Details of the ALPLA decision are fairly clear but as of now we have no information on Voyant, a major employer in the community.

This is breaking news story and we will update as further information is provided.

CORRECTION: Voyant employs over 300 in the Cortland County area, not 600.
