Sheriff suspends visitation at CCJ amid Coronavirus Concerns

Local News

Sheriff Mark Helms has announced the temporary suspension of all contact visits at the Cortland County Jail, in an effort to limit the risk of potential COVID -19 transmission to inmates and staff.

Additionally, all services provided by outside vendors will be suspended, including Chaplin services, inmate education and community services.

This decision was made in conjunction with Cortland County Health Officials.

Officials with the Sheriff’s Department say they’ll continue to monitor the situation daily in order to “ensure a safe environment and appropriate action plans until the risk has diminished.”

Meanwhile, Mayor Brian Tobin has announced that City of Cortland officials will hold a press conference Monday morning (March 16) to discuss what the city is doing with regard to COVID-19 and precautions people should be taking.

The conference is scheduled for 8 am at the Youth Center located at 35 Port Watson Street in Cortland.
