Around 3:30 in the afternoon on Wednesday, May 1st, Virgil Fire was dispatched to a building located on VanDonsel Road for a skid steer that was on fire inside the building. Due to the call, mutual aid was automatically dispatched to assist Virgil Fire.

Arriving units confirmed an active fire inside the building. Virgil Fire says firefighters quickly went to work to extinguish the fire, utilizing a deck gun on a fire truck for an initial knockdown of the fire. Firefighters added another water line to overhaul the skid steer and then checked for any additional fire extension in the roof.

Virgil Fire says all mutual aid that was not on scene was cleared by 3:42pm and the cause of the fire is believed to be from welding that was being done on the machine.

Assisting Virgil Fire was Cortlandville, Dryden, and McLean Fire with Cortland County 9-1-1 providing assistance.
