Virgil Fire Responds to Single Vehicle Crash on Route 392 – Driver Later Located Sheriff’s Office Confirms

Around 4:50 Saturday morning, October 18th, Virgil Fire says they were dispatched to a single vehicle crash on Route 392 near Timmerman Hill Road. Virgil Fire says initial reports indicated the vehicle had rolled over with possible ejection. Due to the possibility of severe injuries as a result, a helicopter was automatically started, Virgil Fire said.

First responders arrived on scene about 5 minutes later to find a heavily damaged SUV. Virgil Fire says firefighters checked the vehicle and underneath it for any occupants, but did not find any occupants. The vehicle rolled on its side after striking a tree. First responders then conducted a search through brush and field about 100 yards from the crash. Nearby roads were also checked looking for the driver.

Due to a lack of a driver, both the helicopter and TLC Ambulance were canceled. Virgil Fire says thermal imaging was also used to check the surrounding areas. Units were cleared from the scene around 5:40 Saturday morning. Additionally assisting was Cortland County 9-1-1 Dispatch.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office told X101 News their road patrol division eventually located the driver, who was not named. They were issued uniform traffic tickets as a result.
