Last week, Virgil Fire Department hosted several other agencies for a wildlife rescue training exercise.
Among those in attendance: 11 Virgil FD members, joined by seven others from Cortland, Cortlandville, Willet, Marathon, and Fabius.
The basic wildland search course was conducted by a DEC Forest Ranger.
It consisted of both classroom instruction and field training in the Kennedy State Forest, near Hauck Hill and Bleck Road.
“After recent calls in the area, we felt we should host this course to be better prepared to provide the best service to our community,” said Virgil fire chief Adam Brown.
He thanked all who participated, including Forest Ranger Lunt for leading the course.
Organization was helped along by the Cortland County fire coordinators office.
