Virgil and Neighboring Fire Departments Quickly Knock Out Fire at Residence on Webb Road
Firefighters from Virgil were dispatched to 2600 Webb Road around 9:30 a.m. Thursday for a reported structure fire.
According to Virgil Fire, a resident was alerted to the fire by a functioning smoke detector. The resident used a fire extinguisher in an attempt to put out the flames, which originated in the exhaust area of a pellet stove. The fire was partially knocked down before crews arrived.

Mutual aid from the City of Cortland, Cortlandville, Dryden, and McLean fire departments was also requested. Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from the single-story home and quickly brought the fire under control. The fire was located in the back corner of the residence.
Crews then checked for any extension into the walls or roof and ventilated the home after confirming the fire was fully extinguished.
No injuries were reported, and the residents were not displaced.
Dryden and McLean fire departments were canceled while enroute. Virgil Fire credits a rapid response for preventing the fire from being worse than it was.
