The Village of Homer Board of Trustees met last night and proposed a future $50 fine for residents who still haven’t scheduled their water meter replacement.
A public hearing is now required on the measure, likely to happen at the next meeting.
Officials say nearly 500 new meters remain to be installed.
Part of a combined grant program with the Town of Cortlandville, the old equipment will be replace with new digital devices that are more accurate, save money and make it easier to troubleshoot issues.

The effort in the village has been ongoing for about a year, with a brief pause during the pandemic.
