Village of Marathon Wins NY Forward Grant

The Village of Marathon was named one of the two winners for the Central New York Region for the NY Forward Grant in the amount of $4.5 million dollars. The Village of Chittenango was the second village to receive the grant.

The announcement was made by Governor Kathy Hochul yesterday afternoon as part of the third round of the NY Forward Program. The Village of Marathon may be best known for the famous CNY Maplefest, which will take place this year on April 5th and 6th throughout the village.

“We are very excited to learn that we are the recipients of a New York Forward Grant. These grants are so important to every community that receives one, but especially important to those areas that are economically challenged. We are grateful to Governor Hochul for her continued support of this important program. Use of these funds will enable our village to continue our efforts to connect our riverfront to our Main Street, address housing shortages, restore historical properties, and enhance and grow our retail sector. We will also be able to increase important cultural opportunities for residents and visitors.”

Village of Marathon Mayor Scott Camberlin said in a release.

Governor Hochul’s Office says the Village of Marathon has cherished its rural character and looks to continue to build on their idyllic setting along the Tioughnioga River while spurring investment and growth.

The Village of Marathon will look to create a vibrant and welcoming downtown that supports the needs of their residents and the residents of neighboring communities and visitors. With the funding, Marathon will also continue their effort connecting access to the river to Main Street, restore historic buildings, and further grow their retail sector.
