There has been an increase in tipping costs and contaminated recycling fees for the Village of Homer. Beginning this month, the village will now be spot checking residents’ individual trash and recycling bins.
Bins that are not in compliance with the rules of trash and recycling pick up, are overflowing, or there is trash/garbage in the recycling bins, will be flagged. Flagged trash and recycling bins will not be picked up by the trash collectors.
Residents will then be responsible for removal of the flagged bins contents or have it disposed of by a local hauler at the residents’ expense. The village will also issue fines in addition to the needed correction.
A letter will be sent out to violators for a first time offense with fines issued by the second offense.
Those fines include:
Putting cans out too early or not removing them within 24 hrs.
- Fines for 2nd offense: $50, 3rd: $75, 4th: $100, 5th and more: $200
