Mayor Hal McCabe reminded village residents as last night’s (January 25th) village board meeting that beginning with today’s trash collection, Village of Homer DPW workers and other volunteers will spot check recycling bins.
Trustee Patrick Clune says the fines are not a money grab by the village, it’s about getting violators to care.
If you get a red tag on your recycling, it has trash in it. Another red tag leads to a fine.
The village hopes this provides incentive for violators to pay attention.
Mayor Hal McCabe told the board he was asked to pursue grant money to help village homeowners make improvements and thinks it’s been a while since the village has done this and it’s probably time to do it again.
We’ve reported on this ongoing issue in the Village of Homer. Happenin’ in Homer from January 5th.
