The Walkable Homer project continues to make great progress within the Village of Homer. Crews with the Village of Homer Department of Public Works have now moved to replacing sidewalks on both Clinton and Warren Streets in the Village of Homer.

It was noted by Deputy Mayor Pat Clune during the Board of Trustees meeting that the trees that were required to be taken down will be replaced and the replacement trees will be planted as soon as the sidewalks are done. Reasoning why the trees had to be removed comes down to a safety concern with the roots of the trees growing underneath the sidewalk and lifting them upwards, creating a tripping hazard.

Not all trees along the sidewalks will be removed, only the ones that are a safety concern.
