Village of Homer Reminds Residents Again of What Isn’t Recyclable

Once again the Village of Homer is reminding residents within the village to follow county recycling guidelines when putting items into the green recycling bins. On Friday, the Village shared images of a rejected load picked up by Syracuse Haulers from recycling bins throughout the village.

The rejected haul shows dozens of items not allowed to be recycled including plastic bags, hard plastics, electronics, glass, and more. Residents who have questions about recycling are encouraged to either contact the Village Offices at 607-749-3322 or the Cortland County Recycling Center at 607-753-5191.

The Village of Homer says they will be “heavily” enforcing both the county rules and the Village of Homer’s regulations/penalties due to the continued increase in contamination in recycling. Bins found with ineligible items or contents that are not in compliance will not be picked up by the village and then be up to the homeowner themselves. The violator will also receive a violation later for their first offense. If more than one offense occurs, fines will then be issued.
