Village of Homer Looks Into Renaming Street
The Village of Homer is contemplating a new street name for a street in the Village of Homer. During Tuesday’s Board of Trustees meeting, the board discussed possible new street names to replace Dee Street. Dee Street is the current name of a cul-de-sac housing development project. The street is located across the street from 141 North Main Street in the Village of Homer.
Dee Street was the name given by the developer of Arbor Brooks Flats. The development is moving forward after years of delays and will feature 15 duplexes and 2 fourplexes. The project was originally given the “green light” prior to the COVID-19 and again last year. Utility work has been done along with the Dee Street being dedicated to the village.
The Board of Trustees looks to rename the street to something that is more inline with the character of the village. Names suggested by Boardmembers and Village Historian, Martin Sweeney included: Webb Place, Hastings Lane, Brockway Ave. and Carpenter Lane. Mayor Clune added though no decision will be made yet as he plans to ask the Cortland County Planning Department if the village will need one or two street names. The reason it may be two street names instead of one is the street itself creates a “T” shape with two cul-de-sacs on either side.
The village plans to discuss further after hearing back from County Planning, most likely during their next meeting at the end of the month.
