Village of Homer Expresses Excitement For Centro Bus Service Coming to County – Info on Routes Available

Centro will be taking over the public transportation services for Cortland County beginning at 10am on Monday, March 31st. During Tuesday’s Village of Homer Board of Trustees meeting, Homer Mayor Pat Clune provided some updated information regarding the planned routes, buses, and fares for Centro.

Mayor Clune noted the current routes being offered by First Transit will remain with Centro for the time being as Centro works to collect data for creating more efficient routes within the County. Clune also added Centro plans to bring about 30 to 35 buses for Cortland County. The buses will be low-level and curb height and light blue in color. Centro will also be providing free fares during their first day of service on the 31st.

“Frankly, I am kinda excited.” Mayor Clune said to the Board of Trustees. “[Centro] was talking about how the routes are currently circular and some employees [say] that as they’re trying to get to different places, they don’t want to go the whole route getting to places…. There may be some possibilities between maybe the City [of Cortland] and Homer of doing direct back and forth [bus routes].”

Clunes spoke on how Centro has been in recent communication with him for the village along with the Village of Marathon.

Centro has provided all information on available routes on their website, Centro.org. In total, there will be 7 routes offered by Centro. For Routes 1 through 6 full fare prices will be $1 with a monthly pass available at $40. Centro will offer half fares for Seniors 65 years old or older, those with disabilities and children ages 6 to 9 of .50 cents. Children under 6 may ride for free, but must be accompanied by an adult. The half fare monthly price is $20.

Route 7 will be a route between Cortland to Cornell University. This fare will cost $3 with a monthly specialized Route 7 pass at $85. Route 7 will also offer half fares of $1.50 as Routes 1-6.
