The Village of Homer will now be strongly enforcing the village’s trash guidelines and the Cortland County Recycling guidelines after the village was informed of a large amount of trash that was being placed in the village’s recycling bins.
The village will begin to spot check garbage and recycling bins and flagging bins that are either overflowing, and/or trash/garbage placed in recycling. Flagged containers will not be picked up and the disposal of the items will be the responsibility of the landowner.
The Village of Homer will send out letters to homeowners where a violation has occurred. After the first offense, fines will be issued per offense to the homeowner/landowner in violation of the Village Homers garbage and recycling policy. Those fines may be seen below:
- Putting Cans out early or not removing within 24hrs
- 2nd offense: $50
- 3rd offense: $75
- 4th offense: $100
- 5th or more offense: $200
