The Village of Homer continues to weigh the potential of creating a new combined fire district, which would remove village ownership of the fire department and spread its costs and resources across the Towns of Homer, Scott and Summerhill.
Homer’s Fire Department is already contracted to service these municipalities, but leaders feel the formation of a fire district would have benefits like dividing the net costs of things like the new $500K fire engine on the way.
Scott and Summerhill are fire protection districts that have no choice but to contract out for their services.
Village and fire department leaders were set to meet tonight (September 10) with those from the various municipalities involved for a presentation on the proposal.
However, one of the presenters reported an illness and that meeting’s been postponed for a date TBD.
