The Village of Homer and the Homer Fire Department recognized years of service to members of the Homer Fire Department on Tuesday, November 29th.
Pins were given to each member of the fire department at 5 year increments of service all the way up to 60 years of service. Pins will be awarded again in April, every year, for 5 year increments.
Deputy Mayor of the Village of Homer Pat Clune spoke before Charles Ford called out the name and years of service of each firefighter eligible for a pin. The pins will be displayed on members Class A uniforms above the 911, for members who do not have a Class A uniform, the pin will go below the Homer symbol.
“This has been something that has been years in the process to get to you guys and gals. As volunteers, you don’t get as much recognition as I think you should get. The amount of time and dedication you guys spend to make sure that we have a fire department such as ours is immeasurable.” Deputy Mayor to the Village of Homer Pat Clune said.
The Homer Fire Department covers an area about 125 square miles made up with the Village of Homer, Town of Homer, Town of Scott, and parts of Cortlandville. The fire department operates from one station located in Downtown Homer.
“This is just a small token of appreciation for the service that you all do for our community and it is absolutely with a lot of heart that we present this to you in gratitude.” Clune continued.
