Village of Homer Amnesty Day Announced – Open For Village Residents Only

During last night’s Village of Homer Board of Trustees meeting, the board approved the date for this year’s Amnesty Day for village residents. The annual Amnesty Day will take place on April 26th from 8am to 4pm at the composite site on North Fulton Street; residents will be guided through a one way system, exiting at the composite entrance. Amnesty Day is only open for village residents with Homer Police checking IDs to verify; residents must bring their ID.

Deputy Mayor Elizabeth McGrath asked DPW Superintendent Phil Stockton on how much is typically collected each year with Stockton saying they end up having four dumpsters available that get full twice prior to emptying. Stockton did note collections have been lower in previous Amnesty Days.

Items that will be accepted are listed below:

  • White goods (stoves, washers, dryers, hot water heaters, etc.)
  • Metal wastes
  • Lumber or anything made of wood.
  • The compost site will also be opened. Any tree wastes, cement blocks and bricks may be able to be dropped off at the compost site.

It is also noted any item that may contain refrigerant must have a certificate of purging included.

Items not allowed include:

  • Tires
  • Tv’s
  • Microwaves
  • Computers
  • Batteries
  • Garbage.

The Village of Homer also reminds residents that no recyclables will be allowed, but will have to go curbside during your weekly trash pickup.
