New York State Police say they’ve arrested Village of Candor Mayor Eric C. Halstead (67) on charges of Corrupting the Government in the 2nd and Grand Larceny in the 3rd, both Felonies.

State Police say their office had worked with the Office of the New York State Comptroller and an investigation found Halstead had withdrawn over $23,000 dollars in cash from a village account for his own personal use.

The investigation found Halstead replaced almost $19,000, but still owes money to the Village of Candor. He was transported to the Tioga County Correctional Facility for arraignment and was later released on his own recognizance. Halstead is due in Candor Town Court in August.
