The Village of Homer Board of Trustees during their meeting last night received the responses from the questionnaire that was sent out to residents in the area of Hooker Ave. and Sunset Drive regarding a 3-way stop sign at the intersection of Hooker and Sunset.

This area of Hooker Ave. does not have a sidewalk and a sidewalk is not planned to be installed. Village Treasurer Tanya Digennaro said sidewalks are the owners responsibility, unless the village receives a grant to build one.

“It’s a safety concern” said Village of Homer Police Chief Bob Pitman regarding why a stop sign should go up. He continued saying that many people use the street due to the lack of a sidewalk and would slow people down coming from Route 281.

A vote on the stop sign was tabled until the next Trustees meeting to allow for the board to fully review the responses by residents. Mayor Hal McCabe noted that the majority of the residents do favor a stop sign at Hooker and Sunset.

The next Board of Trustees meeting will take place on Tuesday, August 29th at 6pm at the Town Hall in the Village of Homer.
