Veterans Day honored across Cortland County

The latest data shows over 3,000 veterans currently residing in Cortland County.

More than 718k live across the state and roughly 18 million nationwide. That represents about seven percent of all American adults.

New York is also home to more than 200 Gold Star families who lost a loved one during the Iraq War.

Homer Police Department thanked all veterans, especially those currently working with the agency.

School Resource Officers David Van Orden and Steve Morgan both served in the Army; Officers Jay Forbes and Brandon Gilbert were both members of the Air Force.



Expressions of gratitude were also given by the city of Cortland Police and Cortland County Sheriff’s departments.

Marathon Central School District students did their part to honor local Vets yesterday with a drive-by parade.

  • Peter Perkins, a U.S. Air Force medical technician from 1976 to 1982 and current vice president of Institutional Advancement at SUNY Cortland, will deliver the keynote address.

  • Typically breakfast, but this year lunch at Gorgers Restaurant (101 Main St., Cortland)
  • Complimentary meal ($10 value) for Veterans with proof of service throughout the afternoon.

  • Veteran’s Day Chicken & Biscuit Dinner today from 3:00 – 7:00 pm
  • Take out only. Each meal is $8, and Veterans eat free.
