Vehicle Catches on Fire After Hitting Tractor Trailer Head-on on I81
New York State Police responded to a 2-vehicle crash on I81 North near the Cortland and Onondaga County line on Monday, September 9th around 6:50 in the evening. State Police say a vehicle engulfed in flames after hitting a tractor trailer on the highway.
State Police say an investigation into the cause of the crash found the vehicle, a BMW X3, was traveling south on I81 when it hydroplaned in the passing lane. The operator of the BMW, 29 year old Praisy A. Gurjar of Mahwah, New Jersey, lost control of the vehicle and crossed into the center grass median.
The BMW then continued from the median into the northbound lanes where it then collided with a tractor trailer being operated by 32 year old Marcos Lemuel Burgado Medina of Whitehall, PA, head-on.
After hitting the tractor trailer head-on, the BMW engulfed in flames. State Police say though no injuries resulted from the crash.
Also responding to the scene were the Preble, Tully, and Homer Fire Departments, and TLC Ambulance.
