This week the US National Weather Service has announced it is Lightning Awareness Week. The National Service will be posting daily updates on their social media accounts to help inform residents on various topics to keep them informed and safe.
The National Weather Service Provided a Do’s and Don’ts list:
DO:
- Go inside when you hear thunder and see lightning
- Find a sturdy house or building or a car with a Hard-top roof
- Stay indoors for at least 30 minutes after you last hear thunder
DON’T:
- Retreat to dugouts, sheds, pavilions, picnic shelters or other small structures
- Use or touch electronics, outlets, or corded phones
- Go under or near tall trees, swim or be near water, be near metal objects or windows
