Updated: State Police Investigating Body Found Near Railroad Crossing on Route 281 in Cortlandville Tuesday Morning

State Police say they are continuing to work in identifying the woman found dead along Route 281 in Cortlandville on Tuesday, November 25th. Police say the woman is middle-aged, but her identity and why she was in the area remains unknown. A cause of death is also unknown at this time.

The investigation remains ongoing, State Police say.

State Police told X101 News Troopers responded to the area of the railroad crossing next to Pall Trinity on Route 281 in Cortlandville around 9:01 Tuesday morning, November 25th. Police say they responded to a report of a deceased individual found by a passerby. According to reports, the body was of an unknown age female. TLC Ambulance was also dispatched to the scene, but later cleared.

Troopers could be seen in the area where the body was located, about 5 feet off of Route 281 by the railroad tracks. Investigators could also be seen going to nearby buildings for any video footage.

State Police say the investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released once available.
