The Cortland County Sherriff’s Office has identified Saturday evenings fatal crash victim as Steven W. Cribbs, age 44, was transported to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. He was the only occupant.
The Cortlandville and Cortland Fire Departments responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on the Port Watson Street Bridge Saturday evening (January 15th) around 8:45 pm.
The vehicle had heavy front end damage and did cause structural damage to the bridge.
The State DOT was called in to inspect the bridge.
According to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, the operator of the motor vehicle was traveling West on Route 11, when the motor vehicle left the roadway, striking the Port Watson Street Bridge.
No other vehicles were involved. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The area was shut down for approximately 4 hours and has since been re-opened.
Assisting with the investigation was TLC Ambulance Service, Ron’s Towing, Cortlandville Fire Department, New York State Department of Transportation and the Cortland County Coroner’s Office.
