Update: More charges for Marathon man in motorbike chase

Charges were updated yesterday (October 29) and more details released on a recent high-speed motorcycle chase involving a Marathon man who was already wanted on parole violations.

The late-night pursuit started around 2 am last Thursday (the 22nd) in the city of Cortland, making its way through other parts of the county before ending in a cornfield.

Arrested for evading police and an active warrant was 49-year-old Samuel Merihew Jr., of Piety Ridge Road.

On top of earlier charges by city police, the county sheriff’s office lodged additional counts for possession of a controlled substance and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license.

He was also hit with three counts of Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer, Obstruction of Gov’t Administration, Resisting Arrest, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 2nd degree and several vehicle and traffic violations.

Merihew was arraigned and awaits his next court appearance at Cortland County Jail.
