Update: The Village of Homer DPW has reopened the ice rink as of today (2/10) after working to remove the hazard that was on the rink.

Original story:

The Village of Homer has announced that the ice rink on the Village Green is closed again after a resident shoveled snow on the rink causing snow to pile up and create a hazard to ice skaters.

The Village is again stating that the ice rink should not be shoveled by anyone other than village employees and has released guidelines for residents to follow:

  1. – Reopening of the ice rink will be announced by the village including their social media accounts.
  2. – While the ice rink is closed, all individuals are required to be off the rink. When all trip hazards are gone, the DPW will then open the rink
  3. – When the ice rink is open, only Village employees are allowed to shovel snow, slush, smoothing the surface, or work on anything on the ice rink. If you see anyone other than village employees conducting these activities to call the Homer Police at 607-749-2022.
  4. The ice skating rink is for ice skating only. No sleds or tubes are allowed, no paths should be made or any other equipment allowed.

Residents with further questions should contact the Village Offices at 607-749-3322.
