WXHC News got word yesterday (November 14) that more details may soon become available on the construction of a new oncology center at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center.
Several residents who live near the hospital say they got notes on their door informing them of a planned meeting to discuss updates on the proposed new facility, which is unofficially scheduled for Tuesday (November 19) from 5:30 – 7 p.m in the hospital’s assembly room.
Rumors about a planned multi-million dollar cancer center were first confirmed in mid-September, but they’ve been existence for much longer — far beyond the Cortland hospital’s affiliation with Guthrie.
“Guthrie is committed to meeting the needs of patients in Cortland and the surrounding communities and we are excited to bring a long-anticipated expansion of cancer services to Cortland,” said Guthrie Cortland President Jennifer Yartym. “We have outgrown our cancer treatment space within the hospital and plan to expand the cancer facilities on the hospital campus. Pending NYS DOH approval, we anticipate breaking ground on a new outpatient building in March, 2020 with the site opening in Spring, 2021.
Community feedback is important to us, therefore we have invited neighbors to a meeting on Tuesday, November 19 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. in the Assembly Room at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center to share information on the proposal and get feedback from those who live nearby.”
