According to a release from the Cortlandville Fire Department they were alerted for a reported structure fire in the area of Cortland Line on Kellogg Rd. Cortlandville.
Chief Gere Henry immediately reported that the fire was at the Suite Kote plant in Polkville with heavy smoke and fire visible near the liquid asphalt storage tanks. A second alarm was immediately transmitted and the City of Cortland Haz-Mat Team was requested along with all available foam.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a heavy volume of fire from the storage tanks. Multiple hose line were deployed to combat and contain the fire.
Tompkins County Airport-Crash Fire Rescue was requested and responded with ARFF (Aircraft Rescue Firefighting) vehicle that was able to spray foam to help contain and smother the fire.
Firefighters had the fire under control in about 1 hour.
The fire was contained to a storage building that housed synthetic plastic beads that are used as a binding agent in making asphalt. There was no release or spills of any kind as a result of the fire. Air quality was monitored and deemed safe by Haz-Mat Teams.

The New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control is handling the investigation. Firefighters remained on scene throughout the evening.
