United Way update: Latest funds help rural food deliveries (audio)

Local News, On Demand, What We're Talking About

On this morning’s community update from the United Way for Cortland County:

Executive Director Christella Yonta said funding from the local COVID fund this week is going towards the county’s rural food deliveries being made in Cincinnatus, Harford and Virgil, along with Grace Christian Fellowship.

Each has seen an increased demand for basic needs from area families.

Deliveries are being made daily by volunteer teams with United Way, Cortland Salvation Army and Catholic Charities of Cortland County.

Yonta said she’s also coordinating a local dairy purchase for these programs, as well.

Additionally, the Child Development Council’s Baby Supplies Drive Thru returns to Cortland this Thursday, May 14 and will continue on a weekly basis.

If you have experienced a loss of income or resources as a result of Covid-19, and you need infant formula or diapers for your little ones, please complete this form: https://forms.gle/4oZikEZsdMnUVhx7A

You must submit your request by Mondays at 5pm.

Drive Thrus will take place in the NYS Grange Parking Lot on Thursdays from 3-5pm.

“Cortland Area Communities That Care Coalition will also be getting some books to the supply pick up for parents to  begin reading to their young kids and Mighty Molar from Seven Valleys Health Coalition dropped off some toddler
toothbrushes for the kids as well,” Yonta said. “It’s great to connect families with these local resources.”
