Unemployment Rate in Cortland County Stood at 4.4% For July

The New York State Department of Labor has released their preliminary data for unemployment rates in the month of July. Overall, the state saw an increase in the unemployment rate from 4.2% to 4.3% for the month of July.

For Cortland County, the unemployment rate for the month of July was 4.4%; July 2023 had an unemployment rate of 4%, according to the Department of Labor. The DOL also reported the county had an estimated 21,000 jobs, an increase of 100 jobs when compared to July of last year. 

Neighboring Tompkins County also shows an increase in the unemployment rate for July 2024 at 3.9% compared to 3.3% in July 2023. However, unlike Cortland County, Tompkins County showed a loss of about 1,000 jobs.
