Unemployment Rate Drops For Cortland County

The New York State Department of Labor has released their preliminary local area unemployment rates for the month of November earlier this week. Overall for the state, the unemployment rate remained steady at 4.4% for the month of November.

The news though was better for Cortland County, which has seen an increase in those employed year-over-year. The county unemployment rate for November ‘24 dropped to 3.7%. In November ‘23, the unemployment rate was 4.4% with an estimated 1,000 people unemployed in the county. The Department of Labor now estimates that about 800 people are unemployed within the county.

Cortland County’s unemployment rate is constant to other unemployment rates in the Central New York Region between 3 and 3.9%. Only three counties in Upstate New York have an unemployment rate higher than 4%. They are: Jefferson, Hamilton and Fulton Counties.
