The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles has announced the start of their annual summer crackdown on underage drinking. The DMV says enforcement will focus on fake IDs that are being used at concert venues throughout the state.

DMV Investigators will be joined by investigators from the New York State Liquor Authority, State Police, State Parks Police, and local law enforcement.

“We urge all New Yorkers to take advantage of summer and all the fun activities in their communities – but please do so responsibly. We will be working diligently with our partners to discourage and prevent the use of fake IDs and the needless tragedies that can result from underage drinking.”

New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James said.

The enforcement detail will take place throughout the summer season, the DMV says. Last year’s crackdown had DMV Investigators cite 312 concert goers and bar patrons for trying to use a fake ID to purchase alcohol.
