On Tuesday, July 18th, Troopers from SP Homer responded to the Virgil Country Store on Webb Road in the Town of Cortlandville for a reported burglary at the gas station.
A vehicle scene at the gas station was reportedly a Kia that was reported stolen from the City of Syracuse a few hours earlier. The vehicle was then spotted by another Trooper from SP Ithaca and when a traffic stop was attempted, the vehicle then failed to comply with officers.
State Police pursued the vehicle through multiple counties including Tompkins, Cortland, and Onondaga. Troopers used tire deflation devices on the vehicle at numerous locations, but the vehicle continued on with flat tires and rims.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop on I81 in the Town of Lafayette with two males then fleeing on foot into a wooded area. Officers were quick to take them into custody.
The two males were determined to be juveniles, aged 15 and 16 years old from Syracuse. State Police charged the 16 year old with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 3rd, a Felony, and Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, a Misdemeanor. He was arraigned in Youth Part Court and released on his own recognizance to a parent.
For the 15 year old, he was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 3rd, a Felony and was issued a Family Court Appearance Ticket.
The investigation found the stolen vehicle was filled with stolen items which included tobacco products, marihuana, clothes and shoes.
